Beginning with love

The first Saturday of the year arrived without fireworks — just morning cold lifting, chai in plastic cups, and children tumbling in with new shoes and old sweaters. We played, argued over game rules, and sat in circles until laughter felt like its own kind of heat. Friendship here does not begin with speeches; it begins with shared time on a bench someone wiped clean.
Money is tight everywhere — prices at the market do not care about New Year wishes — yet donors still sent what they could. Some gave small amounts through M-PESA; others arrived with bread and greens. That consistency keeps the feeding programme from becoming a memory.
As numbers grow, we are experimenting with ways to engage adults too, but children remain at the centre of our worry. They are often unsupervised when parents hustle — easy to lose to idleness, to bad company, to a shortcut that looks sweet until it sours. Gathering them is our way of standing with mothers and teachers: extra eyes, extra care, one Saturday at a time.
If you began the year hoping to give more generously, start here — where a plate of food and a safe afternoon still change the shape of a week.

Preparation for the Day of an African Child
Burning the midnight oil to prepare for tomorrow event... We are happy to host our partners to this children event.

Most welcome
ETCO and Lang'ata Local Water Forum (LLWF) will be hosting other partner organizations in Lang'ata and Kibra Constituencies who'll be participating in the Day of An African Child. We welcome you to be an advocate for the children and impact positively in building a future for them and generations to come. Tell a friend to tell a friend. We'll have a procession from Kibra DC ground to Canaan Estate Community Hall where the event will take place.

Day 1 Unclogging
Day 1. Today, ETCO in collaboration with the Nairobi Rivers Commission, Phase 3 and Canaan Estate Management, commenced efforts to address the long-standing drainage blockage at the Phase 3 Market Stalls. While this intervention provides a short-term solution to the recurring blockage that frequently causes flooding and related challenges in both Phase 3 and Canaan Estate, as well as inconveniences road users accessing Kibera through Nyayo Highrise Ward via Kibera Access Road, we strongly urge the management of both estates to establish a regular maintenance schedule for the culverts to prevent future clogging. With the anticipated El Niño rains, proactive preparedness is essential to minimize the risk of further property damage, flooding, stormwater-related impacts, and potential loss of life. These ongoing efforts form part of our commitment to protecting the environment, improving drainage systems, and ensuring that rivers and waterways flow freely without obstruction.
