Ultimate care and affection

Think of the last time someone placed food in your hands when you did not have to earn it with a speech. Maybe it was your mother balancing ugali and sukuma on a chipped enamel plate, steam fogging her glasses. Maybe it was a friend sliding half their mandazi across a school desk because they heard your stomach growl louder than the teacher’s voice.
Feeding is intimate. It says, “Sit. Eat. You belong at this table.” In Kibera, where budgets snap and plans change by lunchtime, sharing a meal is not charity theatre — it is a practical language of care. When ETCO serves children on Saturdays, we are not handing down pity from a height; we are scooping from the same economy everyone navigates, trying to make sure the smallest people do not pay the highest price for a bad month.
The plate as promise
That is why givers matter — not as distant heroes, but as people who decided their extra bag of maize or M-PESA line item could become someone’s afternoon peace. If you have ever cooked for a crowd, you know the tiredness and the quiet pride. Multiply that by hundreds of children, and you understand why we keep returning to the fire.
Join us next Saturday, or from wherever you are — care travels well when it comes with food attached.

Easter Feeding Program
Thanks to Tim Ruff and Stephanie, ETCO hosted a warm Easter Friday feeding program for children at our new office—bringing joy, a good meal, and community together in Kibera.

ETCO's Kibera Slums Tour
We thank Tim Ruff and Stephanie for joining ETCO’s Slum Tour in Kibera—walking with us, listening to residents, and experiencing the strength and reality of our community firsthand.

FLOOD SUPPORT APPEAL – KIBERA
Heavy rains brought flooding to Kibera’s riparian areas—destroying homes, claiming lives, and leaving families in urgent need. ETCO appeals to well-wishers for food, clothing, bedding, medical support, and other basics, while urging everyone to stay safe around fast water and contamination risks.
