Nourishing Young Lives

Hunger does not announce itself politely. It shows up as a child who cannot concentrate, who is quiet in the wrong way, who saves the last bite for a younger sibling. In Kibera, hunger is rarely a single story; it sits inside crowded homes, missed school days, and the quiet shame of going to bed early to escape the stomach.
ETCO’s Children Feeding Programme is built for that reality: warm plates for children who might otherwise miss a reliable meal, served in a space that treats them like they matter—not as statistics, but as neighbours.
Food, and what comes with it
We partner locally so we can reach children who are easy to overlook. Alongside the stew and ugali (and yes, sometimes rice and beans), we run sessions on nutrition, hygiene, life skills, and care for the environment—small lessons that stack up into habits: how to wash hands when water is limited, why vegetables matter even when meat is a rare luxury, why litter ends up in floodwater when drains are treated like dustbins.
A full stomach helps a child today; understanding why balanced diets matter helps that child tomorrow. This holistic approach is not a grant proposal—it is weekly discipline: interactive sessions, workshops, and conversations that meet children where they are.
When a community invests in children’s health, it is investing in its own future—not in abstract ‘impact’, but in stronger bodies, clearer minds, and neighbours who look out for each other because they were once looked out for.

Ngong River Regeneration Network - Zone (1-6)
The Ngong River Regeneration Network Zone Coordinators (Zones 1–6) held a productive meeting with the Commissioners representing the Ngong River, chaired by Commissioner Benjamin Langwen, alongside Commissioners John Kioli and Dr. Loice Jepkemboi Kipkiror, together with Inspector Ashford - NRC Secretariat. The meeting was highly engaging and inspiring, leaving us even more energized and committed to advancing the river restoration agenda. Together, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to not only regenerating our rivers, but also promoting a cleaner environment, encouraging food production through downstream farming, and creating sustainable job opportunities through riverine activities. #NgongRiverRestoration #NairobiRivers #EnvironmentalConservation #RiverRegeneration #ClimateAction #CommunityEmpowerment #GreenJobs

World Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration
In celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day, ETCO, in partnership with Rotary Club of Nairobi Connect and with support from the Safaricom Foundation, today donated 900 sanitary towels to girls at Joash Olum Primary School. This initiative was aimed at supporting the girl child by promoting menstrual dignity, boosting confidence, and helping keep girls in school so they can stay focused on their education and future careers.

Kikuyu Rotary Club Team site visit - partnership
It was a pleasure hosting the Nairobi Rotary Club Connect’s Yumbya Nyamai, who also represented Ecologists Without Borders (EcoWB), alongside the Kikuyu Rotary Club Presidents—past, current, and incoming—George Ngotho, Patrick, and Marion respectively. We truly appreciated your visit to the site and your interest in the upcoming waste management project.
