Service to Humanity

The rain had stopped, but the mess had not. In Nyayo Highrise Ward—especially around Andolo and Russia—families were picking through what the floods had left behind: soaked bedding, ruined stoves, walls that would not dry fast enough.
You could smell the mud in the corridors. Children were kept home not only because schools were disrupted, but because parents were trying to keep them away from water that was not clean. In the middle of that heaviness, people still asked each other for salt, for paraffin, for a spare bucket—small kindnesses that keep a neighbourhood human.
ETCO stepped in because service to people is not a slogan here; it is what you do when your neighbour’s house is still full of mud. We moved with volunteers and partners, bringing food, non-food essentials, and a listening ear to people who were tired, cold, and worried about what night would bring.
How you can stand with families
The need is still enormous—homes damaged, people displaced, and grief sitting heavy where lives were lost. We are grateful for everyone who has sent support through ETCO to reach flood-affected neighbours in Kibera and beyond. Every little bit counts: a bag of maize meal, cooking oil, soap, sanitary pads, blankets, clean water storage, or a contribution sent by M-PESA when you cannot carry physical items.
Our office in Soweto East, Nyayo Highrise Ward, is open to receive donations and to coordinate what is most urgent as the week changes. If you are unsure what to bring, call +254718783190 and we will tell you plainly what we are short of—no performance, just need.

Day of an African Child 2026
The Day of the African Child was successfully celebrated, bringing together stakeholders from Kibra and Lang’ata Constituencies in a remarkable display of unity, collaboration, and shared commitment to the well-being of children. The event highlighted the strength and impact of collective action through the partnership and dedication of member groups of the Kibera Gender Advocacy Network (KGAN), local and international organizations, government ministries, and local administration. Their combined efforts demonstrated the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in advancing children's rights and welfare. A notable highlight of the celebration was the participation of the Kenyan Judiciary. The event was honored by the presence of the Chief Magistrate of Kibera Law Courts, Hon. Anne Mwangi, together with her team of magistrates led by Hon. Christine Njagi. They dedicated time to engage with participants, grace the occasion, and lead by example by not only planting trees but also in promoting the protection and empowerment of children.
