Representing the Ngong River Regeneration Network, we had the privilege of attending a high level breakfast meeting convened by the Nairobi Rivers Commission (NRC) in collaboration with the Kenya Permanent Mission to UN-Habitat.
The meeting brought together development partners, government agencies, private sector representatives and community representatives to discuss the restoration and sustainable management of Nairobi's rivers, including the Ngong River corridors that run through Kibera and neighbouring communities.
We reflected on the history of the Nairobi Rivers, explored opportunities for their restoration and regeneration, and recognised the ongoing efforts already underway to restore, beautify and protect the rivers and the ecosystems that depend on them. Meetings like this give ETCO a seat at the table alongside government and international partners, which matters for grassroots river restoration work happening every day in Kibera.
