Week 27 - Cold and Productive

Nairobi’s July cold sneaks through door gaps; you smell charcoal and hear coughs in the lane. Parents still left for work where work existed; children played where school fees had not yet pulled them into tuition rooms.
Yesterday had been Saba Saba — marching, tension, businesses choosing safety over sales. Some parents stayed home today; jobs do not always forgive absence. The meal landed heavier because of it: proof that the week had cost something.
We served warm lunch anyway — beans steaming, chapati where we could stretch the budget — and reminded families to layer children before they walk in. A thin sweater is a small shield, but it helps.
To donors and partners: your KSh held the line this week. If you can add cold-season support — thermoses, extra blankets for evening programmes — say so when you write to etco-kenya.org.

Easter Feeding Program
Thanks to Tim Ruff and Stephanie, ETCO hosted a warm Easter Friday feeding program for children at our new office—bringing joy, a good meal, and community together in Kibera.

ETCO's Kibera Slums Tour
We thank Tim Ruff and Stephanie for joining ETCO’s Slum Tour in Kibera—walking with us, listening to residents, and experiencing the strength and reality of our community firsthand.

FLOOD SUPPORT APPEAL – KIBERA
Heavy rains brought flooding to Kibera’s riparian areas—destroying homes, claiming lives, and leaving families in urgent need. ETCO appeals to well-wishers for food, clothing, bedding, medical support, and other basics, while urging everyone to stay safe around fast water and contamination risks.
