As we continue working towards long-term, sustainable waste management solutions in Kibera and other informal settlements, we must not overlook the immediate challenges facing our communities. These include unclogging blocked waterways, conducting regular community cleanups, and educating residents on proper waste handling and disposal. On 9 October 2026, ETCO, in partnership with LLWF, ABC, KAGO, KCERT, Kibera Eco-Care and the County Government, joined hands in a community cleanup exercise to clear blocked waterways and promote a cleaner, healthier environment as we prepare for the anticipated El Niño rains.
It was a productive and fulfilling day of action in celebration of Mazingira Day, demonstrating the power of collaboration and collective community responsibility in protecting our environment.

ETCO hosted Rotary Club International (Ipswich, USA and Kikuyu, Kenya) for a site visit to review project areas and strengthen partnerships for sustainable environmental and community development.
ETCO is taking part in PSN's PROVE pilot programme, a four-month initiative bringing together 11 community groups from Kamukunji and Korogocho to strengthen public space and river restoration.
Representing the Ngong River Regeneration Network, ETCO joined a high-level breakfast meeting convened by the Nairobi Rivers Commission and the Kenya Permanent Mission to UN-Habitat.
