With SDI–Kenya, ETCO helped distribute relief food across Kibra to flood-affected residents, people who had been evicted, older people, disabled community members, and others facing acute vulnerability—reaching more than five hundred people.

Holiday impact - in Nyayo Highrise Ward
The Tujiamini SportPesa programme backed ETCO’s work—including our Saturday children’s feeding—while we marked lives lost to floods and climate-related disasters. Together we planted trees along Nairobi Dam and Canaan Estate, cleaned waterways feeding the Ngong Rivers in Zone 2, ran sensitisation, and fed over 450 children while supporting 520 families through food donations.

Purpose to attend. Tujiamini SportPesa and ETCO
ETCO and Tujiamini SportPesa invited the community to a purposeful public holiday: plant trees, clear and unclog waterways, remember lives lost to floods, run the children’s feeding programme, and share food donations with residents of Nyayo Highrise Ward.

Validation of the NRC 2023 - 2024 Strategic Plan
Sponsored by Act Change Transform (ACT), the Nairobi Rivers Commission convened a validation forum for its Strategic Plan covering 2023–2027. ETCO was represented by CEO Collince Onyango and Environmental Director Raphael Oduor as stakeholders reviewed priorities from waste management and resource mobilisation to riparian protection—aligning river regeneration with grassroots work like ours.

Service to Humanity
Service drives ETCO’s mission. We reached out to flood-affected neighbours in Nyayo Highrise Ward—especially in Andolo and Russia—with practical support as families grappled with displacement, destroyed property, and loss. Our Soweto East office remains a drop-off point for food, non-food items, and financial support.

Dire Flooding situation.
Torrential rain has flooded homes near tributaries of Nairobi Dam, above all along the Ngong River corridors—deepening disease risk, destroying property, and claiming lives. ETCO is appealing for urgent donations of clothes, food, bedding, and household goods, with drop-off at our Empower The Community office in Soweto East, Nyayo Highrise Ward.

Good News by Uebert Angel Foundation (UAF)
Sixteen weeks into 2024, ETCO is grateful for progress anchored in our Saturday children’s feeding programme. Hosting the Uebert Angel Foundation was an honour—your visit deepened joy, learning, and spiritual encouragement for the children we serve alongside volunteers and partners.

Sensitization & Clean-Up
ETCO launched an environmental care campaign at Canaan Estate Community Hall with area chief, Assistant County Commissioner, Hon. Hannah Wanjiru (Shiro), and partners from Whispers, Kibera Plastic Initiative, Kenya Forest Club, Lang’ata Water Forum, Youth Better Days, and more—then hit the river.

NGONG RIVER CLEAN UP
Flooding is increasingly dangerous for riverside communities. ETCO called supporters to join a Ngong River clean-up—unclogging debris so water can flow and reducing preventable damage when rains return.

Nourishing Young Lives
ETCO’s Children Feeding Programme targets hunger among vulnerable children with nutritious meals and partnerships that reach those who might otherwise skip regular food—while weaving in education on nutrition, hygiene, life skills, and environmental care.

Githeri Day
Sometimes we swap rice and beans for githeri—the maize-and-bean mix many Kenyans grew up loving. Watching more than 350 children enjoy this hearty, nutrient-dense meal reminds us that dignity includes flavour and tradition, not only fullness.

Blessed weekend.
Each Saturday, ETCO’s children feeding programme gathers young neighbours for nourishing meals—often their steadiest source of food—and a joyful reminder that the community has not forgotten them.

Urgent Appeal: Recent Heavy Rainfall Wreaks Havoc in Nairobi
Heavy rain along Ngong River corridors destroyed structures and flooded homes with solid waste carried downstream—blocking paths and deepening public health risks. ETCO appeals for urgent cooperation—technical and financial—to reduce preventable harm while authorities warn riverine residents to stay vigilant.
